Font & Styling Issues

When captions don't look right in Final Cut Pro.

Font Not Showing / Wrong Font

Cause: The font must be installed on your Mac, and have the right name.

Solutions:

  1. Download font from Google Fonts, Fontshare, or other source
  2. Install font on your Mac (double-click .ttf/.otf file)
  3. Restart Final Cut Pro
  4. Re-import the FCPXML

Use common system fonts (SF Pro, Helvetica, Arial) to avoid font installation issues.

Colors Look Wrong

Cause: Color Space Mismatch

Solutions:

  1. Check color space in FCP project settings
  2. Should match preset (usually Rec. 709)

Display Settings

  • Check if "Show HDR as raw values" is enabled
  • Verify monitor color calibration
  • Test on a different display

Text Position is Off

Resolution Mismatch

Cause: Export resolution doesn't match your FCP project.

Solutions:

  1. Check your project resolution in FCP
  2. Re-export with matching resolution, e.g.:
    • 1080x1920 for vertical (9:16)
    • 1920x1080 for horizontal (16:9)

Safe Area Issues

Solutions:

  • Adjust margins in preset settings
  • Ensure margins account for safe areas
  • Test on target platform (mobile/desktop)

Stroke/Outline Not Appearing

Check preset settings:

  • Ensure "Stroke Enabled" is checked
  • Verify stroke width is not zero
  • Stroke color must contrast with text color

Text Too Large or Too Small

Solutions:

  1. Adjust font size in preset (recommended: 40-80pt)
  2. Consider target platform:
    • Mobile: 60-80pt
    • Desktop: 40-60pt
  3. Re-export and test

Preview Looks Different Than Export

Cause: Preview in Capti is approximate, actual render in FCP may differ slightly.

Solutions:

  • Always test final export in Final Cut Pro
  • Adjust settings and re-export if needed
  • Use preview for general appearance only
